I want to know your comments about this issue : my preferrence would be AVG is overrated and PC tools anti virus free edition is underrated ;D Have a good day to all forum members and to all knowledgeable avast evangelist
I think that most avast users are not likely to be out there switching antivirus products frequently. There are a few technophiles and folks who specialize in anti-malware pursuits that may spend their time on comparisons but I suspect they are a small proportion of the forum participants.
I am sure that the avast team must be involved in comparative efforts but I imagine that professional etiquette and their relationships with other companies would, at least, color their comments in a public forum.
As Tech says - most here are focusing on avast - so while you may get some useful responses you would probably get more meaningful answers in a less product focused forum.
A particular number of the real avast evangelists landed at avastâs and the webforum of-course because they had a bad experience with major av solutions, and then for me personally it was Nortonâs, who could not be made to work because of wrong certification loaded at a particular moment. Others came here because avast was somehow recommended to them. Yet others had other free solutions and found avast better. Also a lot of new-comers landed at avast because their new computerâs trial solution had ended.
In another posting I commented on the new move of MS in this field and their proposal for next year to make their morro software free.
The next step is that the regular user of avast finds that no av solution can do all, and they have to add additional non-resident av programs and tools to be protected against the full range of to-dayâs malware.
I use only one resident av solution, that is avast (you can only have ONE resident av solution on a machine), then I added free non-resident ClamWin, the latest version of DrWebâs CureIt (did not choose their resident solution because of manifold FPâs (in the past?), anti-malware solutions like MBAM, SAS, COMODO BoClean, RUBotted, SpywareBlaster and as a main line of defense inside the Firefox browser I use NoScript, Netcraft, Perspectives, finjan, WOT, scandoo and several other security extensions). All this to close the vulnerability window against malware all sorts as good as I could.
Enjoy the avast goodies, and the waiting now is for the launch of the avast firewall. If that is as good as their av solution, I am not worried at all,
;D hi polonus wow your security is very tight i think no virus can pass through your defence prevention must be your primary goal. thanks to your comments I appreciate a lot.
You think so? Well the best can be beaten by a zero-day or a hack, but let us make it as difficult for them as possible :P. With a track record of just two False Positives and a couple of tracking cookies over the past couple of years I would say I have learned a lot here at this forum. For those who let themselves be inspired here, thereâs loads to be learned. I personally owe a lot to bob3160, DavidR, Tech, DarthMikey, FwF, the enthusiasm of DrHayden1, and the knowledge of G2G anti-malware experts that reside here, like essexboy, oldman, etc., and all the other forum members I failed to mention that add their experiences here every day; they really give the avast product that little golden extra over the years. I owe a lot to this here community,
Since the virus or malware comes first and the cure is always second, there is no such thing as
totally protected.
Your browsing habits also have a great bearing on how likely you are to get infected.
bob3160 is our senior, you are mine by three years, at least I am in the post war league as I am from 1948.
I like to think of golden shine rather than of silvery locks, as you see below that everything changesâŚ
Hey, Damian ⌠where did you find those 1990 & 2008 pictures of me? :o
While using 2 different computers in the years I have used avast, I have had only 3 infections. I donât even want to mention the number of infections on my last computer before avast & while using Symantec & McAfee products. IMHO, avast is still underrated even though it has a high rating.
I would have to say the most Underrated anti-virus is Avast! but then again thatâs a Biased opinion because I think its the best anti virus and that it should be used by everyone. The most overrated would have to be AVG simply because to me too many people use it, along with the list of problems the latest version has had and from what ive seen and experienced using it in the past the detection rates arenât that great.
I am blessed with my fatherâs hair that was jet black and bountiful unlike my brother who inherited our motherâs blond hair but he is quite bald last time I saw him.
