1. Moving ADNM from one machine to another. How do I keep connectivity from the clients? Do I just redeploy after I move ADNM?
There’s a chapter about this in the Administrator’s Guide, but briefly:
ideally, the new server will have the same IP address as the old one. if so, no change needed at all
if the IP address will change but the DNS name can stay, in the computer group’s properties, set the AMS address to the apropriate DNS name (instead of IP address)
if neither IP address nor DNS name stays, it should work as well, the clients will start searching the network for the new AMS.
2. Moving ADNM from one drive to another on the same server: Should I uninstall and reinstall and ve ready to go?
Including SQL or not?
In all cases: Is this MSDE or SQL install? If MSDE, backup the DB, install new server, restore the DB (using AMS Maintenance Tool). If full SQL, simply provide SQL server details during the installation of the new AMS.
