I was wondering if I can, and how, to move a license of Avast 4 Professional from my old laptop to my new sleek and shiny one.

That shouldn’t be a problem so long as you are only using it in one system and remove it from the old system. You will need to have kept the registration/license key email which has the full key as the one displayed in the about avast window isn’t the complete key.
