I am using Avast 4.6.691 Home Edition. When Web Shield is turned on Mozilla will not auto complete the URL. For example with Web Shield disabled I can type ‘ibm’ for the URL and Mozilla will find www.ibm.com. Mozilla will fill in the ‘www.’ and ‘.com’ so I don’t have to type the URL out. However with Web Shield turned on Mozilla does nothing? This happens with all websites.
I don’t have a problem, using Mozilla Firefox in reaching ibm with or without the web shield enabled.
I would have thought Mozilla browser and Firefox wouldn’t have been that different. However, I’m using the latest avast beta version 4.6.718. This may or may not have an effect.
Whilst beta versions aren’t for everyone, this one is looking very stable, it might be worth trying and see if this resolves the issue.
SonWon, I thought the firewall could have a rule here… but I’m not sure.
Autocomplete feature shoudn’t be affected either by avast or ZA as it’s a browser feature…
I can’t imagine what is happening
Well, I know when I turn the Web Shield off and remove the proxy settings in Mozilla, it works okay. With the Web Shield on it does not so something in the Web Shield is messing things up or at least an interaction between the software components when Web Shield is on. I wonder if the Avast testers thoguht to check this feature when beta testing the Web Shield?
I also don’t have a problem reaching ibm.com when I type the full URL but it does fail when I type ibm without the ‘www.’ and ‘.com’, then no web page?
Hello again SonWon I have just tried both the Mozilla Firefox and the Mozilla browser and both auto completes worked for me. Maybe you should try a repair on your browser or try something like shutting down ZA to see if that is why then turn Za back on.
I prefer firefox i think it is much easier to use and i like thunderbird because it has an easier to use interface. Plus you can download new themes for both of them.
