I’m hoping to receive help in regards to the Mozilla Firefox browser. I’ve heard this web browser is more secure than the Microsoft I.E. browser.
My friend has a PC running on Windows ME. She uses Earthlink to connect to the internet via dial-up. Internet Explorer is the web browser on her PC, but I’ve heard that Mozilla Firefox is a lot better. I visited Mozilla’s website where they have the free browser download.
Four questions for now. First, will my friend’s PC run slower if Mozilla Firefox is added onto her computer? Second, do I need to remove Microsoft I.E.? Third, will Earthlink be compatible with Mozilla or vice versa? Fourth, is it easy to make the switch?
Hi Megaman hope these answers help to answer your Four questions for now
First, will PC run slower if Mozilla Firefox is added onto her computer? No-way Firfox just takes a little longer to start-up (load up)
Second, do I need to remove Microsoft I.E.? No you would find this near Impossible anyway. Megaman can have as many browsers on your computer as you like. Suggest just running one of them at any one time.
Third Earthlink be compatible with Mozilla or vice versa? Yes this will be fine
Fourth, is it easy to make the switch? Yes Just download Firefox run the .exe program. Do a little research on the Firefox Forums there are some great addons that you can use. Firefox is very configurable.
Firefox loads a little slower because unlike IE it isn’t integrated into the OS as IE loads some of its files to work in displaying your help files, windows explorer, outlook express preview, etc. So when IE starts a lot of its files are already loaded.
For the very reason of IE’s integration into the OS as tednelly said it is almost impossible to remove.
If you actually want to have people find out for themself what resources FF or Flock use, and in starting up, have them run process explorer and they see the actual load.
They can get that priceless program from this site: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
No I wasn’t trying to show what resources are used or what is run at startup (I already have processexplorer), I was merely explaining why IE appears to load/start faster than firefox, since most of it is already loaded by the OS on boot.
