Mozilla Firefox

I am running Firefox 7.0.1 with no update in sight, and for some reason possibly connected with a cleanup by CCleaner this afternoon, I am getting newpages displayed as URL links etc. (See screenshot attached). Perhaps I wiped Index.dat files without realising what it meant!! (If that is it, how do I restore them? - I tried one System Restore, and it made no difference.)

I looked under Firefox Help tab and selected Troubleshooting, and saw under Graphics “Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 10.6 or newer.”

I do not know if that is relevant - taken from columns of info about my settings that I did not understand.

The pages in question work fine in Explorer, but I have so many vital Bookmark etc on Firefox and know my way around it, I really do not want to have to migrate evrything to IE (which may be possible).

No problem with FF 7.0.1, Downloaded ccleaner earlier and installed this afternoon and ran.

I don’t like having the tabs on top as I feel they look dis-connected from the page, so mine are on the bottom.

I have lots of bookmarks on the toolbar and none show as URLs.

Do you have any add-ons that do anything with either formatting or bookmarks, etc. ?

Third try at replying (it didn’t like the Word doc from Troubleshooting). Here is a screenshot of my Add-Ons.

Don’t see anything obvious, though I don’t know how coolpreviews works if that migh be involved.

You could try running firefox in safe mode, not the windows safe mode but the running without add-ons.

Hmmm…
We don’t see what is going on below the scroll bar…!??

Presumably because that is where the incompatible disabled add-ons are, which shouldn’t be an issue.

Well, still not sure what the OP wants to tell/ask us…??

Look at the first image, the bookmarks toolbar (when displayed) is displaying URL rather than the page title.

FF setting issue, imo. Or maybe a bad plug-in.
The site works for me… (See screenshot)

You aren’t showing the effected area, which is the bookmarks toolbar area as shown in the OP’s first image.

I have already suggested an add-on, but there are so few installed that I don’t believe it is that, which is why I also suggested safe mode firefox.

I have been digging and googling and I couldn’t find anything on the firefox bookmarks toolbar settings, certainly nothing about changing the displayed text/URL.

I guess he was talking about the main page.

Now the Forum’s Reply system is screwing up!

The second Screenshot was “too large”.

I don’t like IE and I am having to find my URLs on Firefoy them paste the mover to IE.

I tried FF Safemode and disabling CoolPrev - no use

I have a nasty feeling that the CCleaner yesterday that I ran wiped something vital off FF.

Is there any way I can uninstall and reinstall FF keeping my Bookmarks? That may do the trick.

This might help you with the bookmarks problem, at least>>http://download.xmarks.com/download/all

Gargamel360

Thanks. I may do that.

The fact that IE still works suggests that I probably have not damaged my entire system.

So deinstalling FF (using CCleaner!!) and reinstalling it using xmarks may be the only answer. Actually the deinstall of FF may give the option of keeping Bookmarks and Addons.

Gargamel,

I downloaded Xmarks, and Add-ons says that it is Synching successfully - does that mean that it will automaticall save Bookmarks etc. Or do I have to instruct it?

Not exactly sure, I only played with it once around a year ago, so I have forgotten the finer points of its use.

But that seems about right, from the little I do remember, once it finishes synching, the bookmarks should be saved.

But rummage around its interface/help file, just to be 100% sure (because I am not)

Thanks for you frankness - and helpfulness. Most of you guys are born rummagers and see it as a challenge (thankfully) but I have no patience and go for the cautious line of asking ???

There is always this lille beast that your colleagues gave me - MozBackup - should be just the thing

NP, glad to help.

That might work just as well for what you want also.
