Mozy by iTok - Avast Backup

Hi, after Avast has run a back up I’ve been receiving a pop up asking if I want Mozy by iTok to make changes to the hard drive on my computer. The file it wants to make changes to is the Avast Back-Up file. The company mentioned is EMC Corporation. Please can you tell if this is a legitimate message generated by by Avast? Thanks

Could you provide a screenshot of the pop-up?

Hi - Thank you, please find screen shot attached.

Here’s the certificate info. too, if it helps…

I’m not familiar with Mozy and I would be very wary about anything which wants to
make changes to a back-up file. Have you tried a different back-up software?
There are several free ones to choose from.

Most if not all will allow you to select what you want backed-up. Personally I use AOMEI Backupper.
Others use Paragon or Macrium Reflect or EaseUS Todo Backup.

Hey phil28,

My name is Andrew and I’m the VP of Communications for iTOK. I saw your post come across my desk and I thought I would reach out to you and provide some context.

iTOK, the company I work for, is the largest re-seller of Mozy online back-up in the world. We have over 50,000 subscribers that currently use our service (including Mozy back-up) so we handle Mozy pretty well. As I understand it, the Avast back-up service through Mozy will end here shortly. If you want to keep your current online back-up through Mozy, you can get Mozy through us. That’s basically all it is.

Of course, the choice is always up to you. There are lots of other back-up options out there, so I would encourage you to look at other options. But, if you want to just keep it as is, you can go through us. It’s a pretty painless process to do the transfer, but it does take a little bit to make it happen. So, hope that helps. If you need additional clarification, feel free to post here. I’ll do my best to respond.

Can you disclose more info about this?
