mp4 files crash with Avast 8

Just put in Avast 8.0.1482.

Now all mp4 files crash.

They crash on YouTube, and wherever else I find them, and they crash in whatever I try to play them with.

It goes blue and everything is frozen and I have to knock out the program with Process Explorer.

How can I fix this?

Windows XP: Click Start> Control Panel> Programs> avast> Repair

Windows Vista / Windows 7: Click Start> Control Panel> Programs> Programs and Features> avast> Repair

Thanks for the quick reply!

But that didn’t do it.

Now the screen is green and the audio plays but there’s no image. I click it and it tells me ‘The program is not responding. If you wait it may respond again.’

use the uninstall tool
Safe Mode

http://files.avast.com/test5beta/aswclear.exe

a new installation

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Solved!

Alas!

It’s not solved.

After uninstalling the old and reinstalling the new it worked, but today it’s back to not working.

Blank screens, audio only.

Hi all,

As a side note, YouTube converts uploaded videos to flv, not mp4.

~!Donovan

flv files play without a hitch.

This does not play,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=AIFvFuZPr68

As annoying as that clip was it does work fine here on all three systems running avast 8.

I should mention,

DVDs won’t play either.

When I try to play a movie it says,

“Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.”

I did that. Still won’t play. Same message.

Windows media player might be detecting the copy protection because maybe you are trying to play a copied disc ? is your player set to the correct region ?

It’s a disk I got from Blockbuster.

My solution was,

I uninstalled Avast and put in Kaspersky. Now everything works.

I have the same problem. Not just mp4 videos, I have problem with other video formats as well. I’ve uninstalled and did a clear install. It worked first time but after I restarted my PC problem came again. I cannot watch films at my PC while avast! is installed. Whenever I try to watch film I have a green screen. I love avast! and I don’t want to use any other free anti-viruses. Please solve that problem as soon as possible. Sorry for my bad English by the way.
