Hey Speedy, MS Antispyware doesn’t expire until late December. Even if MS Antispyware has expired, you can’t re-install to get more days out of it, it’ll be completely expired after Dec. unless those guys at Microsoft plan to extend the length a bit more. After MS Antispyware beta has expired, I think they’re gonna charge subscription fees there after.
Some time ago I read (in a PCTipp Newsletter) that Steve Balmer of Microsoft would have said that MS AntiSpyware will remain free in the future. I think for obvious reasons: they too want to keep internetsurfing as safe as possible.
The expiration dates are intended to enforce the removal of outdated software.
As a beta version (the clue is in the topic title), it is obviously a trial which has been extended once to the end of the year, at the end of the beta period MS would have had to decide what the release would be, paid for or free. They have now stated it will be free for legit windows XP users as mentioned by Nicolas.
Time has already proved that pirated versions of Windows have access to all these downloads sooner or later: P2P, Warez or cracking anything in the system. So, it will be free for the legit Windows copies but I doubt the non-legit ones will pay for its antispyware…
This is one of the answers in the FAQs about the cost of the MS Antispyware. (For those who doesn’t feel comfortable about the info in the forum)
Windows AntiSpyware (Beta 2) and the final release version will each be available at no additional charge for currently licensed Windows customers. Customers will be required to validate that their version of Windows is genuine.
