“Internet Explorer (Enable DEP)” entry found in installed programs (W7/64)
just wondering what this is doing there, I got DEP enabled for all programs in the appropiate interface (system advanced settings/performance, but I never saw such an entry, it just doesn't make any sense. What could have done that? malware? there's of course no publisher info :) ...any help appreciated.
ps: I also have a grayed out entry in IE8 options, related to DEP obviously, see screen shot. Never saw it before but hey I hardly use IE. Anyway, this doesn’t justify the entry in installed programs.
the thing is I don’t have any problem with the IE dep setting, again as I don’t use IE ;D but I jus want to know why I have such an entry in installed program ??? I haven’t attempted to uninstall that yet, won’t do it before I know why it’s there.
thanks Polonus, but I already saw that page. I’m only trying to find out how a program called “Internet Explorer (Enable DEP)” can be listed in my program list…this said I finally removed it.
edit: my bad, I now remember that I played with fixit a while ago, and that’s probably when I did that, shame on me ;D
yeah I found that pretty strange too, even thought about malware, but it seems that playing with MS “fixit” in the IE section made that happen, I probably checked a setting called “enable DEP” which was ridiculous as DEP is set in IE8 as soon as you chose to run DEP for all programs in all settings. The “fixit” setting is for browsers, older than IE8, that didn’t originally support DEP.
