MS malicious software removal tool inoperable

OS: WinXP Home
Avast version: most recent

This software removal tool will not operate. MS suggests the antivirus provider be contacted for operational solution.

Since Avast-home was down loaded and installed the malicious removal tool has been unable to check and remove any malicious software. Are there any recommendations or changes to Avast to make this tool operate? Thanks to all who have suggestions.

Hi I have this tool installed on my computer and it works fine with avast, have not checked any settings installed straight in and worked right away.

The MS Malicious Software Removal Tool is just like eg: Stinger from McAfee and the Avast Virus Cleaner

It only detects a few infections and is NOT a full malware scanner.
I’ve checked but didn’t find anywhere on the MSRT website that you should contact your av-vendor if it is not working. It only says:

Contact your antivirus vendor for assistance with identifying or removing virus or worm infections.

The thing I have noticed about this tool is that if there are no problems it doesn’t tell you. I ran it 3 times before I realised this. Bottom line if you are not infected then it appears not to run

It sure does tell you the results of the scan. Both the online version as well as the executable do so. The standalone version gives you the option “Give detailed information about the scan” when it is finished. You just have to click on it.

Ooops never saw that

Edit just downloaded and ran it. I am obviously blind and a fool you are correct Eddy
