Strange indeed… if everything works fine with Vista, why would MS ever even think of rewriting Vista’s kernel… And not just thinking of doing it, but actually doing it. MS did it.
One of the “big” features discussed in early speculation of Windows Vista SP1 was the kernel upgrade, which was supposed to bring the operating system into line with the Longhorn kernel used in Windows Server 2008. And yet with Vista SP1 going RTM, there hasn't been so much as a peep from Microsoft about the mooted kernel update. Has it happened?
Sasha,
Sp1 is nothing more than an incremental improvement on a codebase. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you read the first reply, and the authors answer, you’ll see this.
First reply is of course by some fanboy that will say anything trying to look clever. I should sit that prick in front of Vista computer and show him few things and then ask him what he thinks about it. He probably never used this OS for anything else than for browsing the internet and posting around just to show off.
BTW, article was written by James Bannan, and the first reply made by some guy with nickname Tin (not the author) that searched for stories through some RSS feeds.
They REALLY should rewrite from the ground up, but they are being considerate enough to rewrite this much anyway.
+digg
Most people think like that. Of course there will always be those to defend it no matter what, so of course they will say anything.
60% is more than half. It can not be called incremental that’s for sure. It is being almost completely rewritten. Millions of problems even MS admitted many times. If your OS does not properly calculate simple process of copying files from one to another location (even if you have some huge number of unbelievable small files), then there is definitely something wrong with this OS.
Try to encode some wav file to MP3 using VirtualDub or any other third party utility which by the way worked perfectly in XP. There is no way, MS won’t let you do that. Of course there is a registry hack to solve this issue, but would some average user ever mess with registry just to be able to do his/her work ? Paid for OS that won’t let you do a simple task ? No thanks…
Well, people who are buying cigarettes, also see “This product can cause lung cancer…” on the packaging.
The key words are “…readers have reported…”
I have it here, and I tested it in and out, I shock tested it with few huge applications, and this OS can not handle everything properly. Articles like this are just showing what’s happening on the surface, and there is a lot more than just this… I tested it under the surface and it simply doesn’t hold water.
But like everything else, whenever someone is trying to bring something to public in this forum, he/she always gets eaten alive for no reason at all. I don’t care, I am just being objective. I have three different OSes and I see them all in action, I really don’t have any reason to favorite one over another one. I just say what I see.
Nobody is being “eaten alive”, It just comes down to a simple matter of opinion, You have yours and I have mine. I’ve been working with Vista since it’s release and while I’ve seen SOME problems ( all new OSes have bugs, even the almighty Leopard) I (nor all the other people I know who use Vista) find NOTHING to warrent all the FUD that is being spread about Vista on the net.
Well… why the anger and assumptions about a person you don’t know personally? You seem to be calling this person names because they have an opinion and experience that does not match your own. Fanboy you say? hmmmmmmmmm
I myself won’t ever use Vista because I have no need. XP is perfect for me. However I have recently had a chance to use Vista on a laptop for a few weeks and it worked perfectly on that system. I’m still out on Vista, but I think it just comes down to personal experience. I wouldn’t go calling people names because of it though. Ah heck… maybe I’m just a prick too because I thought it ran rather “swimmingly”. I didn’t do just simple file browsing either. I consider myself a power user.
Yes it’s true what Sash says, i had those exact problems with encoding, good that he told me how to sort it out. MP3 codec was installed, the registry keys were there, the files were there yet it still wouldn’t work, after i ran that registry fix it started working. What a relief.
OK Mr. Power User. Have you ever tried using PS CS3, Illustrator CS3 and Flash CS3 all open in the same time ? Most likely you haven’t, but you still claim everything works “swimmingly”. You’ll ask why would anyone need to have them open in the same time… well, as a “power user” you should know that better.
BTW, all this runs on Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb DDR2 now, video card with more than enough juice to run it smoothly (at least that’s what MS says). No improvement at all.
Oh well, there will always be these things in this forum. Whenever someone is trying to say something that does not fit “your” profile of what is allowed to say in here, everybody is gathering to “kill” these whole threads. Well, you succeeded… just keep your forum “clean” and “tidy”. More and more people is realizing what’s happening here, and more and more people is leaving… just remember our old forum friends, if you can even remember all their names… most likely you can’t since their friendship and opinion never meant anything to you. So, now… enjoy “your” forum and pretend nothing has ever happened.
Exactly… that’s why I posted this thread. I have my opinion… I simply posted a link to an article.
I've been working with Vista since it's release and while I've seen SOME problems ( all new OSes have bugs, even the almighty Leopard) I (nor all the other people I know who use Vista) find NOTHING to warrent all the FUD that is being spread about Vista on the net.
It looks like no one is listening… what’s happening when you try to copy some folder to some different location on your computer ? A folder with many files inside, even just some small file sizes… An action that should last around few seconds, at least that’s how it’s happening on XP, lasts for few unbelievable long minutes… first it’s doing something/nothing forever, just some window is hanging on the desktop, then it’s calculating something forever, than first of all it gives you totally inaccurate estimate about the amount of time needed to wait for all files to be transfered…
Since I don’t want this to become one of those threads that put this forum to a shame, I am locking it. Enough said… no one is listening, so no point in having it open. Thank you for your inputs, those are greatly appreciated.
