Today when I thought I was just shutting down my PC, I was really shocked when I re-entered the room latter to find MS was updating my Windows 10 with the “Anniversary” update. So, what is happening now? I am being told Avast version 12.3.2280 is NOT COMPATIBLE with this version of Windows and Windows Defender has been turned on and it was to know if I want to update McAfee? How do I get rid of this other than going back to Windows 7?
and it was to know if I want to update McAfee?I guess that mean you did not remove McAfee before installing avast ?

I have been using Avast for years, not McAfee. Do you think I should uninstall Avast and do a reinstall?
And as to rebooting, during the MS 10 update, it rebooted a number of times. And yes, I also did it on my own after the update was finished.
Hi aznetcowboy
The fact that your system asks you if you want to update McAfee, means it is not ( fully ) removed.
Like Pondus said, you have to do that first : https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter/portal/cp/home/articleview?articleId=TS101331
