I have WinXP Pro SP1.
Whenever I have On-Access Protection on, my msn 7.0 (now i have 7.5) slows down a lot.
Like whenever I open a new chat window, Msn main and the chat window freezes for about 40 seconds. If someone message me and the chat window is not open, it’s freeze for 40 seconds too.
I’ve already disabled the “Instant Messaging” provider and it’s still like that.
But when I turn off the protection completely, MSN 7 is fine.
Is there something wrong with my MSN 7 or is it avast?
Or is there some sort of settings I should change?
1st of all, I strongly advise to get your system up-to-date. Without having ALL security patches/updates your system is very vulnarable to all kinds of infections.
Secondly, some newer version of applications require to have SP2 (and the rest) installed to function properly.
I suggest:
Get your system up-to-date
Reboot
Try MSN again
If still the same problem, disable the Avast providers one at a time and try MSN to see if it is one particulait provider that is causing this.
You NEED to have installed SP2 and ALL security patches/updates released after that.
It will add extra protection to your system.
It also helps to prevent spreading malware to other systems.
Take you responsibillity, it is because people don’t keep their systems up-to-date, that malware can quickly and freely spread around.
I also have installed MSN Messenger vs. 7.5. It runs just fine on my pc. I have no problems with it. Doesn’t act any different than the previous version which was 7.0. The only difference between you and me or our computers is that I DO HAVE SP2 installed on my XP system. It hasn’t caused me any problems, doesn’t cause me any problems. I don’t know why you wouldn’t want the extra protection that if offers and is why it has been introduced to the public. I guess your just being stubborn, if that’s the case then you should be prepared to suffer the ramifications for not having downloaded something that should be in your best interests to do so. Enuf said. Have a nice day.
I’ll second that ! Of course you need to update your OS with SP2. There is absolutelly nothing wrong with Service Pack 2. It’s been discusted hundreds of times already. You need to be up to date with all those security updates and patches, and like Eddy already said, you need to think about others too. Information don’t just come into your system, they also tend to leave your system sometimes
Btw, I have MSN messenger 7.5 and have no problems with it. I also used to use every other previous release without a single problem working with avast!.
It’s probably because it’s still a beta not quite as good as the orginial windows messenger though. Make sure you turn windows update on, and update regulary.
The more modern interfaces require more CPU power, and if your computer is slow, can make it slower, therefore making your computer slower while you’re running it.
