I’m using the latest version of MSN messenger, but for the last few weeks, it happens that i get an alert that a friend (those who r already added in my list) has signed in, then i receive a message in the chat window with a very strange link, and then that person goes offline immediately. :o
Is it due to a virus in my system or in my friends’ system.

Your friend is most likely to have a virus because if he/she was your friend, he/she would not give you a dangerous link.
What was the link? Example: hXXp://www.virus-site.com/ or hXXp://www.virus-site.com/95783.exe
You might have your, “friend” change his/her Messenger password, as it is likely that someone is logging in as them, distributing these malicious links.
It’s a Worm :-\ Opening the link will give you it. It automatically sends the person a picture or link to a site, Don’t open it. Catch this and you will do the same thing. You won’t know about it unless told.

Yep off course my friend can’t send me that link. That’s y i asked that whether it is due to a virus in his system or mine.
and the problem is this that this msg (with strange link) doesn’t come from only one friend, it comes from 3 to 4 different friends.
I’ve 30 to 35 friends added in my msn list, but there r only 3 to 4 friends’ IDs i get a suspicious link from.

My sister walked in and said have you said happy mothers day to mum and I said I didn’t know it was that day. I don’t know what most days are on or are
I know this problem very well, it has a simple step to resolve it
just told all your friends that you got message from to change their passowrd.
also take care! if you click on the link that is coming to you, your password would be hacked and need to change your password.
