Lately my computer was infected by mssvcc.exe virus (which I found quite known on few antivirus forums). The sad thing about it is that it was undetected by Avast
(even when I was scanning ONLY this file;( ). I’ve send the file to virus@avast.com. We will se if they do something about it.
Hello faceless,
Important information about the dangers of this executable file can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/mssvcc.exe-14023.html
Various AV solutions have a different policy towards what is in their definition base. Some only detect malware per se (anti virus), some address a broader area and include unsolicited spyware, adware as well. While unsolicited spyware, adware or scumware is a growing problem (some say even more so than traditional viruses etc.), the anti-virus landscape is shifting. Therefore we can understand your concern. What avast’s policy is here, isn’t known in detail. Thanks for your posting and remember the days that you could secure a computer through only an AV solution and a firewall has been long gone now. Additional anti-spyware and anti-trojan and in-browser security is needed to surf safe now.
