I believe I am having some trouble with setting up a child AMS. After some fiddling, opening of ports and such, I managed to get the child to subscribe to the root server. However, the replication step yields no real results.
At first, I was having a similar problem to someone else, with the Replication task failing on the root server. This was fixed by starting the SQLAgent service, which for some reason, was not running at first. Now I can get the Replication task to run, but it only runs for about 12 seconds, then shows as complete. It does not throw an error in the logs. I can see no mention of it on the child server, and no error thrown in those logs either. The child does show up under Management Servers in the root server, and the only confirmation I have that anything is happening between the two is that if I stop the Management service on the child, it does throw an error on the root server.
At first, I was just using the DEMO license on the child, as I had hoped that the license from the root would be downloaded to it as part of the initial synchronization. I have since loaded the license on the child manually. The root has about 100 users subscribed to it, of which I was hoping for more control of about 30 of them through the child. None of these computers show up after replication.
I’ve tried deleting and re-creating the database, and still nothing interesting happening during replication.
Am I missing something, or does the Replication really do that little? I’m happy to provide any logs you wish to look at, although they are a bit dirty with early failed attempts, as noted.
