I install avast! as administrator. Got a license key. So far, great! I logout.
Another user logs in, not an administrator. avast! puts up a message saying “License key not entered”. Try to enter the key, but avast! says “invalid license key”. Drats!
I login as administrator, change the other user’s account to an administrator, and logout.
Bigmacd, in fact, my system has a non-administrator account and it never asked for the key… Maybe I’m lucky 8)
But, did you downgrade from Pro version to Home one? I mean, did you use the Trial version?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
I did not downgrade from Pro to Home. I started with Home.
I will try the repair option and see what happens. If that still doesn’t work, I will uninstall and reinstall with a reboot inbetween as in your step 4. I know I did not do that previously (unless avast! did it for me, I can’t remember).
I logged on as the administrator, reinstalled, and rebooted. I logged back in as administrator and entered the license key. All good.
When I log in as another user (no matter if a regular user or another user with administrator privs), I am notified there is no key entered and I get no avast! protection. I try to enter the key I entered as administrator and it is not accepted (invalid).
I have to conclude that this product does not work with XP pro and multiple users. Too bad. I am off to find another solution.
Wrong assumption. I’ve tested in a lot of computers running XP with non-administrator accounts.
Your system has something different (maybe tweaked). It’s not, for sure, an avast! fault.
Yeah. These systems are not “tweaked”. They are about as vanilla as you can get.
I have done my best to point out a problem with your product and you can either blow that off and point the finger or take it as valid input and see if it can help you make your product better.
The worst thing you can do is tell your users they don’t know what they are talking about and blame them for the problem.
Hi may I just say something I have 4 user accounts on my computer I am the only one with Admin I have Pro now used to have home and when i created these other accounts avast went straight in, and they can log in and out as good as gold no trouble, so as the post as said above not an avast problem, got to be something not being done on your computer, or a file or driver playing up.
Administrator is not the same as user with admin rights in XP Pro

We’re not talking about MY product, but THEIR. I’m an user like you.
No, I never work for Microsoft but I work with Microsoft products.
I’m not blaming you I’m just that avast! works, for sure, in a system like yours, like mine.
