Once you have run the Mail Protection Wizard, you should have selected to protect future accounts, etc. avast handles multiple pop3 accounts, what you may be confused about is when avast’s MPW asks for the default smtp account, etc. this is just that the default account, not the only account. The same as the default account in your email program you can have others.
What you have there looks ok and it is referring to DefaultPopServer and DefaultSmtpServer as I said above.
Have you tried it to see if it will work?
I don’t use Thunderbird so I don’t really know if you need to set this up manually or if the Mail Protection Wizard will do the settings automatically.
I tried using the MPW and it doesn’t work with Thunderbird or atleast it didn’t work for me.
Thuderbird is trying to send my other email via the default POP server. I was hoping someone could tell me if there where lines that i needed to add to .ini file.
I suggest you try a search for thunderbird and pop3 and see if that returns the required information (or maybe a TB user will happen along). You might also visit the User’s FAQ thread, it will give you a lot of useful advice.
There must be something in TB like OE, if you connect through one ISP, you can use it to send email from another account. You have to select the correct account to use, you can’t send email for multiple accounts through one account (unless you have some authentication with your username and password), this is to stop what is called relaying, mainly used for spamming.
This is a thunderbird limitation I believ nothing to do with avast, a visit to the Mozilla thunderbird forum may be of help.
sending isn’t the problem… i use my ISP’s smtp that has it’s own authorization. it’s receiving my other 2 email accounts. it’s trying to use my “default” pop account.
i’ve been searcing for an hour or so and haven’t been able to find squat.
Glad you find the solution: manual configuration.
TB and MPW do not like each other in Windows 98… :-\
Anyway, it should work as avast is not limited to just one account.
The Default pop3/smtp servers are used just to send files to analysis, just in case you’re (or a program) does not use other than the default system ones, etc.
