Multiple/repeated 'malicious URL blocked' messages

I seem to have picked something up in the last day. Running Win XPP SP3, FF 15.0.1, with Chrome (currently 19.0) as a backup. I’m getting multiple blocked URL messages, to the point that browsing is impossible. The popup box says URL:Mal

Logs attached for OTL, aswMBR and FSS. MBAM log to follow in next post.

Thanks in advance!

adwClean log attached.

A couple of screenshots - popups when I was reading this post.

I did the OTL Run Fix above. On the reboot, the machine hung on a bios splash screen. I shut it down (power button) and then restarted. It restarted normally into Windows and then OTL started.

I ran the quick scan - log attached.

I ran RogueKiller as instructed. Log attached.

btw… thank you for you help so far, Pondus and essexboy. Much appreciated.

OK next stage will be to check the drivers

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Ran Combofix. Log attached.

While combofix was running a few Windows error reporting dialogue boxes popped up. PEV.exe, Realtek HD Audio, Paperport Print to desktop for NT and brctrcen.exe. I recognise all but the first as programs that normally run on this machine.

Will report back at the end of the day about how it’s going. No URL:Mal pop-ups in FF so far.

Let me know if all is well tomorrow and I will tidy up

I’m pleased to report that nothing happened the whole day. No pop-ups from avast! running FF all day (now updated to FF16.0.1), no connection drop-outs.

Looks promising!

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update

Happily, there has been nothing to report in the last week, so it looks like its all fixed. Thanks again essexboy, I’m grateful for you sharing your time and expertise.

I will run the cleanups now.
