Multiple users on a single machine need multiple registrations after update.

((Edited because of something supressing changes made while proofreading.))

Late Febuary I formatted, redownloaded and reinstalled XP SP3 (genuine/licensed) on a machine that I am forced to share with my family. To minimize the damage (and the number of times I need to reinstall windows) I have always assigned seperate user accounts with varying user privileges.

At somepoint* I updated to AV8 and have had to resolve multiple complaints steeming from Avast and other programs not sharing registration and password-protections between the Administrator account I used to install the programs, and basic-user accounts.

*I believe that 7.0.12xx.7xx was installed then updated to 8.0.x, that also broke email for a time. As that machine is in use behind a closed door I will not verify that against the logs on that machine at this time.

Originally I registered my machine under my email, and that shared machine under my mother’s. However, being shouted at and irritated by the [flurry] of broken security protections, “update/update failed” popups (including programs that were supposed to be ‘blocked’ by a competitor’s product installing themselves and being a general nusiance) and I did not wish to take the time to open her email for any sort of verification/challenge and used my email when Avast! AntiVirus demanded reregistration.

Today I found that my registration on my machine was invalidated when a popup slowed a game I was playing to a crawl telling me so, even though that could have waited until after I had closed the game (will file seperate bug report).

Will I need to generate multiple unique email addresses for that machine, and invade the privacy of my family for every user account on every machine, or do I need to look at some form of multiple user license?

The only user who needs to be registered is the “administrator”.
