I have been running AVAST PRO on my computer with Windows XP Pro SP2. Yesterday I had to re-install windows because of multiple errors, I also had to previously uninstall and re-install Microsoft Office 2003 and Frontpage 2003.
All my settings were intact after the re-install of Windows.
However, I know there was an issue with Norton, that the security measures in Sp2 would ‘disable’ Norton without the user knowing, and that they should’ve re-installed Norton for it to work properly (MS small print when they issued Sp2 update to Sp1).
Does anyone know if this is an issue with AVAST?
I will be re-installing it anyway, but the info would be good for those that are not aware that there is a possible issue.
Did you format your computer or just ‘overinstall’ Windows XP ?
Seems you have overinstalled Windows…
Never heard about this Windows behavior… where did you read this?
If you clone your HD to another you’ll have to install avast again (anti piracy feature).
The same if you change from FAT32 to NTFS file system.
But I’ve overinstalled Windows some times and does not have to change (install again) avast.
When they first brought out Sp2 for Win XP Pro, it was mentioned in the small print that security features within Sp2 would disable Norton AV, which would necessitate in the re-install of Norton AV for it to work fully.
I did re-install over my previous installation of the OS, I did not format as I did not feel that the problems I was encountering needed that level of re-installation.
Did I mention that I managed a computer shop, and many of the infected PC’s brought in had Norton on them and had had Win XP Pro Sp2 installed over it?
If you install Windows then avast then update Windows to SP2, well, maybe you’ll have to reinstall avast.
But, if you install Windows and update it to SP2, then install avast, then overinstall Windows, you won’t have to reinstall avast. At least, this is my experience.
