i tried to find info on this forum, but i have no clue as to what i’m looking for. any assistance would be appreciated! i am using avast 4.6 and received an alert today which recommended that i send a virus to the virus chest. i did that, and now i can’t figure out what to do. the virus is “VBS: Malware [script]”. i have windows xp. thank you!
Hi there, if you put the infected file in the virus chest, theres nothing else to worry about. I suggest you wait around a week or two to make sure nothing change on your PC in a wrong way before deleting the infected file from the virus chest. You may use the virus chest to further investigate the infected file. 
what a relief, thank you!! how would i investigate the virus, and is that something you suggest?
Normally for me, I would go lazy and just ignore the infected file once it reach my virus chest. Some people do that, after sending the file to the virus chest, they forget about it and move on. But I always delete it if my PC is still running smoothly after a while.
What would also help is a little more information.
- What OS are you using?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- What was the filename, where was it found
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
