My Avast has stopped working

Program has stopped working. My account shows the following status:

Valid (Expiration Date 23/12/2017) ACTIVATION CODE DOWNLOAD LICENSE

Any suggestions

Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

Just acquired a new laptop, updated to Win10Pro, tried to install Avast Free and use the Passwords feature. When I get to the step where it asks me to enter a password to activate, Avast becomes unresponsive.

I tried repairing Avast and that didn’t work.

I tried uninstalling in safe mode without internet connection and reinstalled but got the same result.

Any suggestions?
