My Avast (latest free version) full scan stops at 4.7 Gb scanned files, in less than 10 min, sometimes properly, with a “No danger” report, and sometimes the clock goes on ticking, without any more scanning. In the second case it only stops when I go back to the home panel and try to restart, causing a red instability warning, after which I can get at the logged details: usually the number of files scanned is between 20040 and 20140 and the last file is often …\system32\svchost.exe or …\system32\wbem\wmiapsrv.exe or SVC:(…)>??? A quick scan stops at 21 Mb (in 42 sec), also at svchost.exe. I’m used to scans taking a couple of hours and it’s clear that most of the software hasn’t been looked at. It seems that some address-registering resource gets used up, because Avast sometimes complains that there are no more ‘links’ of some kind when I try to start another type of scan, after it stops. Also, it refuses to start (even though the clock does start ticking) on hard drive E:, after stopping the full scan on C:, and vice versa if I start on E: first. All this happened as soon as I upgraded the Avast free program. Finally, I can’t find any Uninstall button in the program or on the Program Menu. My processor is quite old-fashioned, but there’s plenty of RAM and the op sys is XP Professional 5.1. Any ideas?
hey and welcome to the forum. there is a uninstall button if you go start- control panel-add/remove program scroll down to avast then hit the remove button.
or you could download the uninstall tool and run that to remove avast and that tool could be find here
