My Avast will not update itself..

It’s set to auto updates, but I have to manually update it and that takes about 5 times. Keep getting error message’s. Is this from some nasty little bit of malware? It is Windows XP. Thank heaven for Linux…Can some one help me?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

Thank you I will try that.

I tried to repair but it’s still not auto updating. It tells me " Invalid file signature"

Help? ???

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

I will try this & thank you!

You’re welcome. Post back the results.

If Repair Doesn’t Work Try Downloading The Database File @

tarfile, we need more info about your computer (old antivirus, other security programs, etc.).
Does the problem occur only with avast or other browsers, sites, etc.?

I have been using Avast! for years. It’s the only antivirus I have been using. I do have Immunet 3.0 running too. And yes,the problem only occur’s with the Avast.

And it still occurs when you disable/uninstall Immunet?

It was updating with the Immunet 3.0 running. This just started about 9 days ago.

Well, I would have to repeat my question. Things are changing, so is Immunet.

Ok, I will try uninstalling the Immunet 3.0 & see what happens.

I uninstalled the Immunet 3.0 and reinstalled The Avast & it did update it. Thank you for the help! ::slight_smile:

Ok, good that it works.

I suggest to contact the Immunet guys so that they can investigate what changed recently and fix the compatibility issues with Avast.

Thanks again…
