my avast wont work

when i try to start up avast i get a box that says

“Windows cannot find ‘C:\Program Files\AVAST Software|Avast\avastUi.exe’. Make sure you typed the name correcty and then try again.”

I have tried uninstalling and re installing, and using the uninstall tool, i have tried repairing it, i have tried running malwarebyte. I am at a loss. Please Help.

What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
What happens if you (try to) run avastclear ?
Any other problems with the system ?

I got this same error on my Win10 system and it also gave me a popup dialog box that just said ‘Avat UI’ with an OK radio button. I did not click the button. AvastClear tool did not actually delete ANY Avast files or registry entries either. Since then I tried to DL a new version of Avast to make sure I have a good running version but keep getting the error about invalid file signature.

I have vista on my laptop.
I have the Free Avast.
It originally came with nortons and then i used AVG for a while but they have been deleted.
I do have malwarebytes anti malware.
When i use the avast clear it deletes the program as it should, when i reinstall i still have the same error.
And there are no other issues that i have noticed.

Thanks for your help.

Let us know if this is solving it.

I did everything as you instructed and it is still doing the same thing. Not fixed yet.

Whats next?

Get and run Farbar and attach two log files to your next post (FRST.txt and Addition.txt)

It says failed download error when i try to download for my 32 bit system.

Try to download it with a non MS browser, they seem to have problems lately with downloading.

It gave me a fail error through firefox as well.

Ok so I tried to download the file from my desktop to disc and found that on my desktop Avast was blocking it. When i was trying to download it on firefox, from my laptop, there was an avast side bar running. So evidently part of Avast is working on my laptop. Knowing that and knowing that Avast blocked the Farbar i uninstalled it from my laptop and was able to download Farbar.

Here are those .txt requested

OK lets see if this cures it

Thanks for your help

Hi carniegirl

You forgot to attach the last Fixlog.txt.
Essexboy needs that to help you further.

Greetz, Red.

Sorry i missed that bit, But here it is

So it is saying that it is unable to find that file ?

Is it physically present on the system ‘C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\avastUi.exe’

It is there, it is listed as …AvastUI.exe everything else the same. but when i click on it directly, it still tells me the same thing."Windows cannot find ‘C:\Program Fies\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Could you run a fresh FRST scan please so that I can see how the run key is constructed

Now it is telling me that “Windows cannot find’C:\Users\Main\Downloads\FRST.exe’.”

Remembering that something about Avast wouldnt let me download FRST to begin with, I had to uninstall avast to download FRST. could there be a part of avast running in the background that is stopping me from running these programs? but if i try and run a scan through the main, it says Avast isn not running soooo… I am at a loss. What would you like me to do next?
