My beloved avast! is dead!

Last night my avast! protection died. It has been a great & dependable product, but now nothing I do will restart it. I’ve tried a fresh install, per instructions, after using the proper removal tool with no success. All I get is messages saying that “the program has been stopped or is in an inconsistent state” and that the “shields are unreachable”.

Is there any hope, or do I need to move on after all of these years?

repair and if that doesn’t work, then re-install from scratch :wink:

What were you doing when it expired ?

Any suspicious activity on your system when it expired ?

What other security programs do you have installed, firewall, anti-spyware, etc. ?

You could try a clean reinstall:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 5.1.889 and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.x, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
