My borg firewall

Win 7SP1 IE10 Win Firewall and Avast 8.0.1489
When I do downloads, I notice when I check the Connection Settings in the Avast firewall, settings in different program groups change their individual. Better to say that new software and Windows probably load their default settings. I surf in the public zone, even though I am at home, and have a LAN. Wireless disabled. The public zone setting in Avast matches the setting I have in Windows Network. Home/Workgroup is disabled/defaulted off. It’s annoying to see Avast do these little tweaks in it’s firewall, and yet I could not have better protection than I have been afforded with the service. So, since I always optimize/tweak things for the optimum, is their specific guidance and details for working in the Connection Settings submenu of the firewall? Otherwise, a very happy camper. Oh, My Internet Explorer is a good reliable engine. Is Chromium a better browser, from both a safety and ease of interface point of view? Thanks… 8)
