my computer always shut down as soon as I try to scan it with avast

it shut down directely, and I have no clue what virus it is, and how to remove it…even in safe mode it is the same.
If I just go on the web, it is fine, but as soon as I try to clean it or to scan, it shut down…since more than one year!!I’m on windows XP family edition with pack 2.
What can I do?? ???

You could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’

If anything is found send it to the chest/quarantine, don’t delete.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Or AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) Resident scanner during trial On-Demand after trial ends. Or Spyware Terminator Resident scanner.
