My computer crashed!

Hello avast today i did a full scan and i got another computer crash today. yesterday i was checking my e-mail and it happened with the same error! here is the link to the dump file and i beg of anybody please view it and tell me how to fix it please! http://www.mediafire.com/?vnv6zsjojtr3k41 here is a screenshot of what blue screen viewer says the blue screen said

could avast be the cause of it? :frowning:

Off the cuff, this usually happens when my machine gets to hot. MY fan controller on my MoBo went out not that far back and I remebr the FF’s and zero’s in my BSOD. Have you checked those items, as this BSOD error is defintly hardware related. If all checks out then Im stumped but havent checked your mediafire link yet either… my bad.

Upon further review of the error, I distinctly remeber the ‘IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL’ statement… but again, maybe not heat related but still HW related… most likely.

Here is a eRecovery management thing that is am scared to use on my computer and it is by acer…

Have you cleaned your registry lately?

If not you should download a good registry cleaner and clean your computer’s registry. Other steps in addition to cleaning your registry, you might take to resolve this problem are on link.

If you decide to mess with the BIOS as instructed in the article linked above you should be aware of this first.

NOTE : Modifying BIOS settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS settings can e solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Also since it is a W7 OS you try and restore the “Last Known Good Configuration.”

Download WhoCrashed from here → http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

or

It may give you some insight into what is going on.

Since you are scared to use the eRecovery, I assume you have not burned any recovery cd’s or a repair disc.
This is something that you really should do.

Have a backup plan too. Which includes a system image and a daily backup. A system image only takes me around 30 minutes whereas a full recovery can take all day.

Who Crashed was designed primarily to identify bad drivers

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/WhoCrashed.shtml

Before using Who Crashed it would be a good idea to download a driver update program like Slim Driver and update all the drivers along with making sure that all the drivers are digitally signed.

I used whocrashed thing and it looks to me like avast might have been the cause Damn it! >:(

Hopefully the new release will address this. I don’t know when it will be here.

They will want you to upload the dump files. ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1061

I am uploading them with Filezilla right now and the ZIP folder they are in is Coolmario88 Crash Files… Also avast please respond to this topic if you got the zip folder thanks

Edit: Zip folder with dump files in it uploaded says Filezilla

Hmmm… Too many suggestions. I’ll do one more: run chkdsk /f to crrect disk errors.

Hey Tech thanks for responding I did the right click of “c:\ drive” and did check for errors under tools with none of the boxes checked because i dont wanna want to have my pc off just for it to scan i did a long time ago and it took a good while. Also i disabled avast self defense thing for now

And again like i said above it would be nice if avast could respond to this topic and tell me if they got the dump file. Somebody i know told me to remove avast and use MSE… ::slight_smile:

MSE…Gmm :o

But anyway, wait until we have new program update out…hope that fixes the mess! 8)

I uploaded the file so Microsoft help people can view it and they told me to run http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979444 and my computer had another crash today just a few minutes ago… I have uninstalled avast… And I know this might be dangerous but i might go a day without an antivirus installed to see if the bsod’s stop

BUMP. Awaiting a reply from avast still :-\

I made time for chkdsk /f and here is the log from Event viewer

So far so good and my testing results coming together nicely… I uninstalled avast 7 yesterday like i said above… and well no bsods at all… by this time yesterday my computer had already crashed… I am starting to think avast really was the main cause of the crashes because it seemed like after avast updated it caused a bsod to happen. I really love avast’s antivirus product this is the very first time avast ever given me any trouble. :-\

I sense that the new release is near.

Have you browsed through event viewer at around the time the BSOD happened to see if you can locate any additional info?

What about installing avast but disabling self defense? Just an experiment. Curiosity has got hold of me.

It’s up to you. It’s better than having no protection.

I did disable it once when i had the crash and found out it was self defense. and my computer still had a crash… I tried downgrading to avast 6 but it the version 6 installer told me that the files in the installer is out of date and it begin to download avast 7 installer… i hope a new version of fix the problems i had with avast 7 if it doesn’t i don’t know… if i should stay with avast or switch to another. :-[
