My computer willnot boot up

I not a very experianced user so I need help please.
I installed Avast Home version, rebooted the computer and the system ran scanning all of the files. When it stopped I was left with a message on the screen that completely froze the computer. Even ctrl/alt/del did not work so I powered off. Upon starting up I got the following message:

“You have used the System Configeration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.
The System Configuration Uiility is currently in diagnostic or Selective Set up mode, causing this message.
Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made during the system configuration Utility
(Tick box) don’t show tis message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts.”

The Computer freezes and nothing can be done. I cant even check the box, or close the message or use ctrl/alt/del. What can I do from here?

I believe that the cause may be that I didn’t realize that there was an anti virius already on the computer. How can I at least start up the computer to remove the program?

Mmm, having two anti virus programs can cause major problems. You could try starting in safe mode. Power on your computer and as soon as it leave the power on test, start hitting the F8 key. It should bring up a screen with startup options. Choose safe mode. Then try to uninstall avast and then your other anti virus program. I think it’s best to do it in that order… After having ninstalled both, reboot in normal mode and install one anti virus progam.

Welcome to the forums, Qgal.

If your other anti-virus was Norton or McAfee, you will have to do a little more than just normal Add/Remove programs uninstall. Both of these av programs are infamous for leaving behind files/registry entries that will foul the installation of any other av program. >:(

Please let us know the name of the other anti-virus program.
