My Dad thinks that he may have the Java Virus on his Dell PC! Any Suggestions?

My Dad thinks that he may have the Java Virus on his Dell PC! Any Suggestions? We did a Boot Time Scan and it came up with something related to the Java Virus, only thing is that it was an OLD 6.0 Version of Java that gave us the Trojan Horse Warning and NOT his current 7.0 Update 11 version of Java. I think I may have posted about this before but forgot to come back and look for any Replies, though I can’t remember if it was here that I posted, or if it was somewhere else where I posted about this.

if so, this is the guide to follow and attach the requested logs http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

AdwCleaner
Malwarebytes
OTL
aswMBR

My dad does NOT like using Shareware Programs like Malware Bytes, and neither do I. Just FYI.

And, I do apologize if my last reply was a little rude. I have seen other people’s computer’s destroyed by Non-Avast Anti-Virus Software, and Non Avast/Microsoft Anti-Spyware.

It should also be noted that unlike my PC where I run Windows 8 with Avast Internet Security 7.0.1474,

My dad is Running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with Windows XP Mode and BOTH Avast Free Edition 7.0.1474 AND Windows Defender Enabled on the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Installation.

You’ll find that most of us here will recommend that you disable Defender since it doesn’t add to your protection if you’re already using avast!.
We also recommend Malwarebytes because it’s the best program available to check for and delete malware.
It’s your computer (or your Dad’s in this case.) so you make the final decision but you did come here and ask us for advice so that’s what you’re getting.

+1 I have to agree.
I would not be without MBam and havn’t for years.

Another vote for Malwarebytes here! Best and cheapest solution as it’s a lifetime license, you don’t need to buy it to solve your dad’s problem though. It will allow an on demand scan (free) instead of resident background scanning (paid).

so…how is the removal specialist going to help you if you dont download and run the tools needed for him to do the work?
OBS…he removes the tools used when the work is done

Just some added information about “supposed Shareware Programs” that are recommended by real life professionals.

Here it is recommended to use Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Spyware for “added layered security” 8)

I wouldn’t even classify Malwarebytes as shareware. It is a universally acclaimed malware removal tool and works very well. I have never heard of it causing any problems. It’s record is cleaner than most of the Anti-Virus providers in that regard.

Excuse me but I have some one down the street whose Windows XP Computer was Destroyed by BOTH AD-AWARE FREE PROGRAM AND SPY-BOT SEARCH AND DESTROY FREE PROGRAM, after REBOOTING she got an ERROR MESSAGE that NTLR was MISSING and no way to REINSTALL as the OS was on the Hard Drive Only, and she could NOT access the RECOVERY PARTITION, even worse was the fact that the BOOT SECTOR was PASSWORD PROTECTED. Just fyi.

I didn’t mention the two programs you talked about. My endorsement was for Malwarebytes not Ad-Aware or Spy-Bot SD.
I would also never recommend or endorce any program that I haven’t personally put through the wringer and in this case, personally use.

As a result: She (the person down the street from me) ended up having to take her Computer back to Best Buy (where she bought it from) At a Very Costly Repair Bill all do to the fact that it was her error that caused the problem and Best Buy would NOT Warranty the Repairs.

Did you even read the response to your last post ???

You came here for advise. It was given to you. Taking it is up to you.
If you choose not to take the advice, then there really isn’t anything else that any of us can do for you.

My Mom gave me the Green Light to try out the 14 Day Free Trail of Malware Bytes, and I gotta say that I am really impressed with the program, I may actually my myself a Licence to the Program when I get Paid My Disability Benifits on the 3rd of Next Month.

I think you need to slow down and actually read what people in this forum are trying to tell you, especially the very first post by Pondus, and the corresponding link to essexboy post.

hey then i suggest you attach the log from malwarebytes and the other logs that was link to you in a previous post. without them the malware expert can’t help you out and your dad.

and the programs that comes from that guide is safe to use if’s that your dad is afraid of.
and the experts is trained and legitimate removers so not to be afraid there either.

So going back to your original reason for coming to the forum, for the malware removal specialists to analyze what is going on, they need logs from your Dad’s machine. Therefore, you need to follow the directions from this link: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 and ATTACH the following logs to your reply

 • AdwCleaner
 • Malwarebytes
 • OTL
 • aswMBR

These are the tools needed for the malware specialist, and they will be removed after he is done working on your Dad’s machine. They are all free (including Malwarebytes). Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you.
