Sometimes we discuss here some of the Firefox (Flock) extensions. But we rarely post a full list of them. I think extensions give some clue what about our interests, how we see the web, how do we surf, how do we think about security, speed, and so on.
So, here is mine (I’ll try to keep this post updated) and I’ll ask the others who participate in this thread to do the same. I think links will be welcome 8) You can make this list with MR Tech Local Install features.
I haven’t got than many and most are in your list.
BBCodeeXtra - allows you to use BB (forum) Code in web page text boxes (like quick reply) without having to open the full reply option. Very handy for those who post regularly on forums.
Download Manager Tweak - other/limited options for the firefox download function.
httpOnly - adds httpOnly cookie support to firefox.
Mozilla Archive Format - Save complete pages in a single file (for off-line reference/viewing).
OpenBook - Allows for customization of the Add Bookmarks dialogue.
QuickRestart - Adds a Restart Firefox to the Tools menu.
ShowImage - Adds context menu entry to reload images that failed to show on the page.
Translate 0.6.0.8 - another option to the translator extension - for pages and selected text.
View Cookies - View cookies of the current web page.
It passes validation when I do a check for updates, etc. download the xpi file and use 7zip to open the file it is just an archive file. Extract the install.rdf file with a text editor and you will find the minVersion and maxVersion which shows it supports 1.7 - 1.8, I must have changed the maxVersion>2.* or 2.1 say.
{86c18b42-e466-45a9-ae7a-9b95ba6f5640}
1.7
1.8
Save the install.rdf file and put it back in the archive (OK the replace existing file, etc) save the .xpi file and your good to go.
The usual warning don’t do this if you are scared of the consequences, etc. etc.
I do not have these extensions/add-ons in FF but in the Flock Sulfur 0.8.0.99 Web2.0 browser, with DrWeb Check URL as a favorite, because the add-on won’t play in Flock Sulfur. Here is Polonus’s collection:
Well people can use the Firefox, Tools, Add-ons, at the bottom of the window is a link to Get Extensions. Searching here wouldn’t be much of a problem, I’m also a believer if something is worth having it is worth a little effort to find it. That is I feel better than one person doing all the donkey work.
Thanks for the donkey work I’ve done…
Mr. Tech Local Install extension gives a list with links (html). Just a text editor and you’ll have automatically the donkey work done…
Then you only need one extension, that is search with http://searchwith.mozdev.org/
What to do for the other extensions - highlight them and then search with “search with” to find the others.
The mozdev.org site also has a large collection of add-ons/extensions, also those temporarily in the sandbox.
Mind this, it is advisable to scan your extensions before downloading them, and download them preferably from the https site so you know you get the real mac coy.
Then some extensions may interfere with other extensions. Some extensions have known memory leaks,
error console console2 is better than the default error console that comes with FF or Flock, locationbar2 is better than the default address bar that comes with FF or Flock. Why the developers did not gave up their inferior versions is beyond me. Also why NoScript for security reasons was not brought in by default, but then as you come to think of it; commercialists rather incorporate Stumble upon and Alexa’s as default then NoScript or Stealther. Those that earn from ad-crap vote those extensions out that hinder them too much in getting money for your clickstream, like an extension like RDR that make your browser definitely safer, see: http://redirectremover.mozdev.org/
Every security aware user of this forum knows the insecurity of certain things in the browser, like: redirects, certain tracking third party cookies, malicious script vectors, silent downloads etc. But more secure browsers has not reached the big masses yet.
will someone explain what donkey work means being in the US i have NEVER heard that saying before :
and tech will report on my firefox extensions when i get a chance ok
The Rolling Stones sing about this as “never be your beast of burden”, when you do the hard work for others.
And a donkey is a beast of burden, isn’t it?
Sorry, I should have posted that as a PM, but returning to the topic, drhayden can post his list of extensions here to make amends. Just to come back to something that keeps my mind occupied since you mentioned it, Tech, is that I have second thoughts now about that greasemonkey add-on. And it is your remarks that spooks through my head all the time. Now I say, Tech is a 100% right. It has interfered and torpedoed my AdblockPlus extension’s workings. So I had it disabled. It is a good thing for you all to open up your error console once in a while to see what goes on under the hood. Browsers are very intricate tools. But again summa summarum extensions make the Mozilla browser shine, without my extensions I think I would not touch my Flock anymore, I would feel surfing in the nude.

...this post edited 8)
ok i just reinstalled firefox as i mentioned to tech in a pm ;)
next post besides the one below to davidr i will post my extensions ;D
In this context, manual work that doesn’t require someone of Tech’s ability to do it. It is an onerous task to do for all the extensions that Tech has. When someone only wants one or two, then they and I, would I’m sure be happy to do the donkey work on our own behalf.
