About 10 minutes ago, I noticed the Webrep inside Chrome was not working. It was greyed, all search results no Webrep image next to it.
But when I clicked on the Webrep at the top of the Chrome browser, it showed a window for loggin on, but all buttons without words. My biggest worry was that there was a screenname and password already placed inside it. I never used that screenname/email and never connected my Free Avast to an account, except for expiration/registration.
“srjaer @ avast . com” with password typed but not showing what password was.
After I uninstalled then reinstalled Webrep into Chrome, I not get that error, but it then showed Webrep’s window as “my . avast . com”
Now, after 5 minutes, the top of Webrep’s window shows the website of whatever I am on.
I not use an account with Free Avast. In fact, I only use for expired/registration. But never used “srjaer”
1…Why did Webrep change to a login window with another person’s email/password?
2…Who is “srjaer @ avast . com”? And why he have access to my computer?
3…Why did Webrep’s window change to “my . avast . com” when I not on it? I never had an account for that.
3 days ago I did my monthly computer boot scans with Avast boot scan, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Spybot S&D, Microsoft safety scanner, scans. Nothing was found, and nothing has been suspicious until now.
paranoid, the “login window” is a bug. It should not be there. It appeared by accident in some beta build. However it shouldn’t be in release at all.
What is your Webrep plugin version?
What version of avast are you using? If not the latest please update to 7.0.1473. I would suggest doing a repair.
Control Panel>Programs and Features(XP)/Uninstall(Vista and Win7)>double click avast>scroll to and click “repair”>reboot.
If that doesn’t work try a clean install. WebRep works fine in Chrome here!
Thank you all sincerely for the fast and effective replies. My free avast has the latest program and database updates everyday. 1…since that is a bug, was it possible to access that person’s account that appeared? 2…is web rep updated when I click on program and database updates, or is there separate button for it? 3…just curious, why did that person’s account appear and not others? 4…did the bug previously mentioned explain why web rep accessed “my. Avast . Com” through web rep pop up window, which appeared as though already logged in?
WebRep has nothing to do with your avast account. In fact WebRep has nothing to do with security. WebRep is based solely on popularity. WebRep is not updated except by the three bars in your browser. There is no way to update WebRep. The only items to get updated are the virus definitions and program. Which brings in the resident shields that “do” the actual protecting. Again, WebRep has nothing to do with protection.
