Things I have done:

  • Ran Panda anti-rootkit 1.08 - it found nothing.
  • Ran avast (beta 4.8.1147, VPS 080319-0) boot-time scan, infected files: 0
  • Windows defender has this file in its quarantine: Adaware/Win32/Vapsup
  • Installed adwanced windowscareV2 and immunized system. Windows systrem restore is disabled.

[s]I have something on my computer and I can’t start/use task manager! Windows says something that adminstrator has disabled it.

EDIT: Got task manager to work again, but is there something suspicious on that log? Please let me know.

Yes most definately.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press “Enter”.
Choose your usual account.

In Safe Mode, double click SDFix.exe and install to the default location by clicking Install. The SDFix Folder will be extracted to %systemdrive% \ (Drive that contains the Windows directory - typically ‘C:\SDFix’) Open the SDFix folder in Safe Mode then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the fixtool. Type Y to begin the script.

It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot. Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files. When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

It is vitally important that combofix is renamed before it is even started to download

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

[*]If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
-Tools->Options->Main tab
-Set to “Always ask me where to Save the files”.

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Please follow all previous instructions regarding security programs.

Open a new Notepad session (Do not use a Word Processor or WordPad). Click “Format” and be certain that Word Wrap is not enabled.

Copy and paste all the text in the quote box below into Notepad.

Click File, Save as…, and set the location to your Desktop, and enter (including quotation marks) as the filename: “CFscript.txt” . Using your mouse left button, drag the new file CFscript.txt and drop it on the ComboFix.exe icon as shown at the bottom of this post.

Thanks. I didn’t know what the file was.

The combofix script didn’t seem to run right, none of the text appeared in the last log. It was loke it ran a blank script.

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.

Save it to your desktop.

Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.

Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

Sorry to hear about the bug, been fighting one myself. Sometimes, I think these thing jump right out of the computer and get you.

Just the clean up of the tools and a couple of housekeeping items left to do.

  • Click start button, run, then copy and paste the following line into the box and click ok.

Combo-Fix /u

Open OTMOVEIT2 then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet - allow this. A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

  • Create a new restore point

You must be logged on to an administrator account
Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the text box labeled Restore Point Description, type a name for this restore point , click create

  • Remove old restore points
  • Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - system tools. Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and let it run. When it finishes a box with tabs will appear, select the more options tab. On this tab you will find a section for System Restore. If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.
  • Your java is up to date, but you may have some older versions still installed.

go to add/remove programs and unistall anything that says Sun Java, Java JRE, or similar, except Java TM 6 Update 5 , this is the current version.

Next, in windows explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files[b]Java[/b] <=this folder, if found. Delete any subfolders it may contain, except, jre1.6.0_05

Do NOT delete C:\Program Files\JavaVM <=this folder, if found!

  • Clear the java cache

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
Download this tool from: http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe
Double-click Smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press “Enter”; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply as an attachment. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a “RiskTool”;
it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between “good” and “malicious” use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user

You should also remove your old system restore points and make a new clean one as in previous clean up instructions.

Click the download button on the right.

If Information Bar pop-ups up, right-click on it and say it’s OK to display the blocked content.

You do not have to install the Java Web Start ActiveX Control

Accept the license agreement > Click on Windows (XP,Vista, .etc) Offline Installation, Multi-language and Save the file jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to your desktop; do not Run it. Do not install it yet.

When the download is complete, Open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs:

Uninstall anything that says Sun Java, Java JRE, or similar.

Close Add/Remove Programs.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Java <=this folder, if found. Delete any subfolders it may contain.

Do NOT delete C:\Program Files\JavaVM <=this folder, if found!

Reboot your computer.

Double-click on the saved file to install the update.

Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above procedure and reboot if not prompted to do so.
