My mouse has gone crazy

My mouse wonders around the desktop clicking where it wants and I cannot control it. Sometimer after I boot it will be okay for a while then it begins to become erratic.

When I look at my hardware list it tells me that I have two HID-compliant mouse devices. The drivers for both are the same mouclass.sys and mouhid.sys.

I have used services.msc and looked over the services disabling many and marking some as manual. I thought that stopped the erratic behaviour but after leaving it sit idle for a while it took off on its own again.

I am using the latest version of the free Avast and ran a full scan. The scan did not find any problems.

I replaced the ps/2 optical mouse with a new USB optical mouse and have the same problem. When I locate one I will try a ball type ps/2 mouse.

I’m using Windows XP SP3.

Any help available?

If you go to Start > Run - and type in ‘msinfo32’ (without the quotations)
This will take you to System Information - expand hardware Resources in left hand dropdown menu

  • select IRQs and make a screenshot

Make a screenshot

  • look in top right hand of yr keyboard for Print Screen/Sys Rq and click
  • open up MS Paint - choose edit from menu bar across top of screen and select paste from dropdown
  • click and this will give you a screenshot of yr IRQ settings
