My PC connects automatically to the Net... Worm, virus? Please help

Hi all

When I want to stay offline, my PC tends to launch a connection every hour or so and a unwanted popup window opens. This is very annoying: for instance, I play Half Life2 (registered version) and when that connection tries to establish, popup stopper or not, HL2 loses the focus and the Desktop appears.

I’ve tried a Norton AV check, AdAware, Spy Sweeper: I removed various stuff, but the phenomenon remains…

As a sort of last hope I’ve ran the HijackThis thingy, but I’d like a few opinions before shredding my machine to pieces

Thanks for help

Just curious. Why asking this on Avast’s forum while you are using NAV?

I strongly suggest you start making your system up-to-date. Currently it is very vulnerable to all kinds of malware/attacks !!!

This the result from my HijackThis Log File Analyzer (freeware) :

CHECKING HIJACKTHIS, INTERNET EXPLORER, WINDOWS AND SOFTWARE FIREWALL:

You are using the latest version of HijackThis.
Old version of Internet Explorer detected, please update.
INMEDIATLY visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install ALL security patches/updates.
Software firewall detected.

THESE ITEMS ARE HARMFULL AND SHOULD BE FIXED/REMOVED :

Thanks a lot.

I searched for forums to post HJT logs on, and this came first, sorry for intruding here :-\ I then appreciate your help even more.

Don’t feel sorry. No need for that. We are here to give support to people in the first place, and we are more than happy if we can help someone.

And unlike many other places we do not only give support for the product the board is from

Welcome onboard I would say.
