My PC Keeps Crashing After Installing Update on Avast Antivirus Free

Hi There

I am new to the forum so if I am not following the correct protocol posting this I apologise but I wondered if anyone can help with my problem . I have had Avast on my PC since I bought it last year (desktop) and it is running windows 7 professional before it would occasionally freeze up for no reason at all and I tried updating drivers defragging etc and it seemed to work again until the latest update of Avast I performed today as soon as I installed it the PC keept freezing every time you opened a folder or you connected external hard drive printer etc .Also web pages on internet explorer including microsoft outlook remote would not open correctly and looked corrupt I tried everything to get it back but discovered after uninstalling Avast my PC went back to normal . As I have Avast on all my machines and have had it on all my machines since day one plus reccomend it to all my friends and family I am keen on putting it back on my desktop PC . Is there and known issues that would have caused this that are being fixed or will I now have to live without Avast >:( . Any advice would be welcomed and thank you for taking the time to read this .

Your new machine may have had an antivirus program installed before you added avast.

Be sure all the remnants are gone, this list has the popular uninstallers.
