my reaction last night after realizing the issue...

Avast auto-updated and later I re-booted…of course I started getting false-positives…luckily my instincts warned my to not delete, though I did chose the “no action” button.

after a quick search and realizing there was a widespread problem, I tried running one of the programs affected and it wouldn’t run. I shut-down Avast and then the program would run properly.

Realizing this could be a huge issue, I uninstalled AVAST, figuring I’ll re-install once things are repaired.

So, when I re-install tonight after work, will the programs affected still not run, or is there some remaining files the uninstaller didn’t delete that I should manually delete so I can put this whole episode behind me.

Thanks.

If you haven’t removed any files then there should be no problem.

My concern is that there might still be a file for AVAST that wasn’t deleted with the uninstall that will still flag my programs so they still don’t run…I do consider myself lucky here, not having deleted anything.

If you install from scratch then even if there was such a file it would be overwritten by the installer. So I think you’re one of the few lucky ones here who doesn’t have to worry, really…
