My Web Scanner delima

Hi everybody
My first post here so I would like to say right off the bat that Avast is a great product !

Okay…I have sorta of a complicated problem but here goes.
When I first started using avast it worked fantastic as far as I knew. No problems.

I then stared messing around with settings in Avast, Syagate Pro and ad muncher for a couple of days seeing what gave me the best privacy, protection ect…you know what I mean.

Then 2 days ago I noticed my Web Scanner didn’t work. I know for a fact it worked before. I find this to be a vital module in Avast so I started reverting back to old settings, uninstalling and then restalling(Avast and Sygate) and rebooting and even using the Repair option as well. I tried everything!!

I even spent a couple of hours searching this forum and eneded up finding a solution of sorts…

A Proxy!! I don’t know why but when I used the proxy setting that where recommended in this forum(localhost 12080) all-of-a-sudden my web scanner worked.

But here is the draw back. When I have my web scanner on(w/Proxy) I lose ALL my privacy provided by ad muncher (via ip scrambler ) and Sygate.

And get this now Im having a hard time surfing (speed and such) without this proxy!

Yes, I have toggled settings back and forth trying to narrow the problem down and it all leads back to these proxy settings.

So it boils down really, to either turning the web scanner off completely ( service and all), live without the privacy I want and need OR…hope that you smart techy people in this forum can help me trouble shoot this damn thing.

In short I would like to have my cake and eat it too.
I would like to have the web scanner up and have my privacy hidden.

Programs running in system task:
Sygate Pro
SpySweeper
Admuncher
Ewido

System Specs:
Windows XP SP2

  1. turn the proxy off
  2. edit avast4.ini, in the section [WebScanner] add OptinProcess=admunch.exe
  3. restart webshield

It should work. There were some problems with older versions of admuncher and that is also the reason why admunch is not scanned by default - try it and tell us if it helps.

Okay…I tried your suggestion and it sorta worked.

I can know use my web scanner w/out a proxy but cant surf with
my web scanner on and my IP scrabbler on at the same time.

Okay is there something I can add to my avast ini to get my P2P scan to work now??

BTW the above hack worked great!! ;D

Hi, welcome to the forums.

This should have really have gone on a new thread as it is not related to the current thread.

This ‘show detailed information’ is off by default so you may have switched it on not knowing its effect.

Open the Web Shield detailed view and click the Customize… button, then the Advanced Tab and uncheck the box, see image.
