Mysterious folder appeared on C: drive

Recently, a folder appeared in the C: named only by numbers and letters. Avast4 did not pick up anything abnormal when I ran a full system scan. The file was moved to the Recycle bin for now.

This occurred after receiving an email with no subject line and content of numbers and letters.

I do not wish to open the folder to examine the content. KAV online cannot scan the folder because the file size is 1.51mb over the 1mb limit of KAV online.

Has anyone else noted such a folder or file, or received such a peculiar email??

IS THERE ANYWAY TO MANUALLY MOVE THE FILE FROM THE RECYCLE BIN TO THE AVAST CHEST FOR SAFE EXAMINATION?

Thanks ???

This folder is created by the Windows updater. Typically the Service Pack installer does this but some small updater leave it behind as well…

(I assume the folder name is similar as the one in this post: http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1040 isnt’t it?)

What can I say – I hate when it happens.
But it’s not malware (of course, if you don’t count MS software in it…)

Only restoring the file from the Bin and drag’n’dropping it to the User files folder in the Chest…

VLK.

Makes sense to me. Did both a Restore from bin, and drag to the Chest.
I opened it and sure enough, it was part of the MS Hotfix File migrator for Sp1 and 2 service packs.

Thank you for helping calm my nerves ;D

I never noticed this before.

Take care
