Has anyone else received an email purporting to be from Gendigital claiming that they had invoicing problems in April/May of this year and that you now owe additional charges? I have reached out to my account manager and I’m waiting for some kind of response before I totally dismiss this a scam attempt. ![]()
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
There have been several scam attempts in the Avast user products section of the forums such as this, though this one is more for the consumer products.
Somehow they get hold of your email address, which I presume is your personal email rather than business email address (which would presumably have been what would have been used). They generally target the more popular antivirus products, whilst GenDigital has several products in the group (Avast, AVG and Norton).
So this would seem even stranger for a business product. I think you are wise not to have responded directly.
Generally the emails that I have seen mentioned in the Avast personal product range of the Forum are somewhat vague, hoping you would contact a telephone number. This confirms they have a live fish (email) who responds and could be targeted by other scam.
Update: According to my SMB Sales Manager this is legitimate! I went back to my Avast Cloud Care invoices in April and May and could see from the detail that some charges were not applied like they normally were. My Sales Manager had Avast/Norton Lifelock finance department send me a Paypal link and I got it paid. Fortunately it wasn’t much due, under $100 US.
So my recommendation is to work with your sales manager to verify it is for real and coordinate payment with them!
Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, we have the same thing. Their accounting department chased us, and I thought it was a scam. But it wasn’t. And it was under $10.00.
Yes, I believe it was a legitimate billing system issue. In my case I got double billed for one of my client’s 12 month renewal, with a charge on my card around the middle of May, then again for the same amount on May 30th. They posted a refund just this fall when I noticed and reported it.
