Mysterious Malware Detection during Search

Lately I’ve been getting pop-ups from my web shield that it has blocked malicious script (HTML:Script-inf). However, the cause of this block is random. Sometime I get it from going to yahoo’s homepage; websites I’ve frequented and never had any viruses from them before; and even from google searches. It’s always this address being blocked:

http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/rmp.mtvi/unk_i_s/ShowRatings/2085…|>{gzip}

I suspect I may have a google re-direct virus but I am not very sure. I’ve run Avast! but it doesn’t seem to pick up anything and that everything is fine. I also notice that my webshield is blocking this malicious script with ever so increasing frequency.

Is this malicious script frequent or do I have a google re-dire virus? Do I have to be concern with this?

Hi maddenHatter,

You may have a reason to be concerned, as avast! will not alert when nothing is amiss (or not detected).

Suggest going here and downloading and running the first three programs: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Each will, when run to completion, produce a log. Attach, do not paste, the logs in your next reply. Once that is done, a malware removal expert will be notified and assist you in cleansing your system, beginning with an analysis of the logs produced and attached.

All other programs listed in the link above are only used when warranted. Please wait for your malware expert to tell you to run them.

Okay, I only ran the first three programs: adwcleaner, Malwarebyte and OTL. This is what I got for my logs.

I also would like to mention that I am continuing to get HTML:Script-inf, albeit with another address now…

OK, gone and notified an expert malware removal expert. As it is now 7 AM ish where he lives, might be a bit before he enters. Please be patient.

Yahoo are in cahoots with doubleclick . Does this occur in all browsers and only when you enter/leave Yahoo

Yeah, well, Avast! web shield block comes on for both Firefox and Chrome. I mainly use Chrome. And yes, the HTML: Script-inf only originates from some sort of ad.doubleclick.net. I’d get this warning sometime if I click on a link in the yahoo’s Trending Now. It’s now getting that even if I search, say a review of a professor, on google and when the search results return–Bam! My Avast web shield comes on and says that it just blocked an HTML: Script-inf from some sort of ad.doubleclick.net. It is almost seem like the HTML: Script-inf is tracking or something…

OK lets clear all cookies etc…

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Okay, this is what I got as the result.

Are you still receiving the alerts ? If so could you see whether IE produces the same

Now it seems to pop up if I go to http://www.afterellen.com only (for now, and still originates from doubleclick.net). It is no longer popping up during google searches or appearing on yahoo’s homepage. Yes, I get the alert if I visit that site using Internet Explorer (with the default internet security options on). So I’ll be avoiding that site though I never had problems with it before.

It sounds as though a cookie is being placed. It could be worth setting your browser to delete all internet temp files when the browser is close and restricting third party cookies.

Thanks! Yeah, I blocked third party cookies and plugins seem to solve the issue. Now I can go onto that site and Avast! is no longer alerting me of a Html: Script-inf.

Great, if all is well tomorrow let me know and I will tidy up

;D Yes, I have yet to encounter any Html: Script-inf! All is well! Thank you so much

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and press uninstall

Delete Aswmbr from the desktop

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button
