first off, great app! 2 things i notice,first is that sms and call filter, when trying to add a number from call history it shows that i dont have one even after making and receiving calls after installation. second is probably they way the program works but the notification icon in status bar is always showing and has one notification telling me that i am protected… is it suppose to be this way?

Well, thank you for your commendations; how can you exactly can add a number from call history? Call and SMS blocker does not offer such a way - there is only possibility to add a existing contact, manually entered number or unknown and hidden numbers. The notification with “Avast is protecting you” is by design and the icon is part of the functionality of the suite, so yes, it have to this way
