Need conflict fears eased before I update to 5.0 (visual C++ related)

I’ve already upgraded one of the two computers in my place to version 5.0 (I went through the process of doing a complete removal of 4.8 before installing 5.0 ) and I noticed afterwards that it also installed microsoft visual C++ 2008 and I then remembered that a program I have installed on my computer also required this but after checking I found out that is was a earlier version (2005) and I’m not sure if both versions will play nice with each other or just create merry hell whenever I need to run the other program that requires the earlier version of C++ (or just in general).

What I currently have installed is…

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x86 8.0.50727.4053

both visual c++ versions can be installed at the same time. No conflict.

:wink:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable - is use in 4.8
Microsoft visual C++ 2008 is use in 5.0
it will remains wen you direct upgrade from 4.8 to 5.0
without uninstalling the previews program.

i also have that ;D

I know this isn’t correct as I know this wasn’t installed when I installed avast to begin with is was installed when I installed the software for the tesco internet phone (and I know this as it did install this item during its own install and it updated it during a update of the main program except the ATL update did come through windows update).

From my understanding, having c++ redist installed albeit different versions (2005, 2008, 2008sp1) does no harm to your pc. Some programs require them to function and call on the correct version of the dll (msvcr90.dll, msvcr80.dll etc) when needed.
