Need help:3 questions

  1. Since "avast! creates an integrity database, i.e. it stores information about the actual state of the files, doing it three versions back for each file. "

Is it like system restore? then how much disk space does the database take up? and where is the database stored?

  2. What if my instant messaging program is not in the customize list of IM provider, can I add it ?

  3. How to remove the password?

I really appreciate your help

One more

  1. How to configure avast not to popup a confirmation window when a virus detected. Can I choose a default action like “move to chest” without confirmation anymore?

Thanks again

to whom it may concern;

it’s all about avast 4, and i’m using windows 98… error appear on my task bar icon like in a red stop sign… i’m using windows 98… …
thank you… and more power…

ron

somebody help me

No. It just stores the necessary info to repair executable files (exe, com, etc.). It does not backup all the file neither all of the files.

Some Mb… depends on how many executables files do you have in your computer.

\DATA\integ folder

No, only the IM listed are supported. Which one do you use?
ashQuick.exe is the executable to scan (on-demand) your files downloaded by IM.

Let it blanck (nothing written) and you’ll do it.
If you did not remember the password, uninstall avast, boot, install again.

No, only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Or you can use Silent Mode:

Left click the ‘a’ blue icon.
It will start On-access protection

Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No. This will send the file (email) to Chest.

Do the same for the and Outlook/Exchange plugin.
The answer Yes in Silent Mode keeps the virus in the file or into the message (attach) and continue the scanning. You can’t configure ‘delete the infected file’ in the Home version.

You can do the same for Standard Shield provider, but it won’t be a good idea…

Silent mode in the case of the WebShield provider simply means that avast will keep pressing the “Abort connection” button for hte user automatically.

Ron, better opening a new thread about your problem… Oh, do you use any other antivirus in your computer? Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing. If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Thank you very much, Tech

OICQ, an IM that is quite popular in China

Doesn’t the ICQ option work?
Maybe you can add ashquick.exe (full path) into OICQ settings to scan the downloaded files…
It won’t be bad if you add this ‘wish’ into the ‘wishlist’… one of the first threads in this board called [New features…].

ICQ option doesn’t work.

I’ll try the “wishlist”, thank you!
