need help identifying an exe file

I was trying to clean things up a bit. Went in my documents folder and in a folder called Downloads I found two items. Please see screenshot. I had no recollection of this Integrated_CT2776682.exe file so I Googled it. I found lots, and none of it sounded good.

I noted that the other item in the folder is McAfee, which I use, and that both of these items were last modified on 10-9.

Could someone help me on this please?

upload it to www.virustotal.com
when you have the result, scroll down to additional information and click the “show all” button. maybe there are some info there that will tell you what it is

Hi,

Please check the Company Name and File Version in the file properties and update us.

Have a wonderful day. Good Karma! :)

There is much information on virustotal.com, but you have to know what to look for and how to understand it, which I do not. Is there a way someone who knows what’s going on could look at this scan?

At the very bottom there was a comment: This Download from Brothersoft installs the Brothersoft Toolbar and ChromePlus 1.6.3.0. Thus it contains at least Adware.

I’ve never tried to install Brothersoft Toolbar or ChromePlus.

There is no info given as to the company or anything – not under properties and not in the virustotal scan.

I know I can just put it in the trash, but I’m wondering how it got there in the first place and if I need to look further.

I have a scan scheduled every day with both Avast IS and Malwarebytes Pro. Nothing has come up.

can you post the VirusTotal scan link here

Not necesarry.....avast have a file shield that is running in the background all time scanning all file movment in the comp. a quick scan a week is plenty

Here is the link. I still have the page open in my browser.

you may check ad/remove programs to see if you have it installed ?

I already checked add/remove and nothing there for either Brother or Chrome.

Hi —
I used the BrotherSoft site to download some free software today. I found that the file Integrated_CT2776682.exe got downloaded along with the software I wanted.

It seems to be when you click the “Download” button on BrotherSoft, what gets downloaded is actually a very small BrotherSoft file (300K). When you open that downloaded file, 2 files are then downloaded from BrotherSoft:
One is the file for the program you wanted in the first place.
The 2nd file is the “Integrated” file above.

Based on the analysis done by other members here, it looks to be a BrotherSoft file used to set up their Toolbar, etc.

Kind of sneaky, although there is a pop-up that asks if you want the Toolbar installed. It’s already checked “Yes” by default so if you blow by it, the toolbar gets installed!

Hope this helps.

This might sound redundant but are you using “both” MacAfee and avast.
If you are read this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic260844.html/page__p__1441638#entry1441638

Other good download sites are filehippo.com and softpedia.com.

Please take a gander at the screen shot.

Para-Noid: You said to take a gander at the screenshot. What screenshot?

You asked if I am using both Avast and McAfee. No. I use McAfee Site Advisor only.

JackOfAllTirades: I don’t recall ever having gone to the BrotherSoft site for anything. I am careful about watching when I download and install anything for these extras they try to give you.

In any event, I deleted the items I was questioning.

You may some how downloaded McAfee-Site-Advisor and the .exe file could be its installer.

It could be an infected version of McAfee-Site-Advisor so I recommend that you follow the steps outlined above by the other posters. JMO

McAfee Site Advisor is useless!
The avast! WebRep is MUCH better.

I am not going to worry about this item anymore unless something else comes up.

I also use Avast WebRep. I don’t swear by either of them. I just prefer to have them as extra help.

This thread is getting confusing. If you can find the files are you able to right click…open file location…click delete/uninstall? ???

I thank you for your post, and I agree with you that it’s getting confusing. That’s why I said I’m not going to worry about it unless something else happens.

I never heard anything more on Oct. 22 and then suddenly today, Nov. 5, I get a notice that I have a response. That’s quite a gap. I had already gone ahead and removed the file in question way back so let’s just consider it closed.
