[need help!] My Avast! can't update virus definitons!!

Okay, let’s just go to the problem…

I just have downloaded Avast! Free edtiton ver. 5 And i want to update my virus definitons, but the problem is every time i click update, Avast! cannot connect to the domain server. It says : Error: Cannot connect to the Server.
Why this is happening?
please help me, i dont know what to do anymore… Thanx before…

did you reboot after install ?

have you tried avast repair ?
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

click the start button in lower left corner > then controllpanel or is it controllcenter (sorry norwegian os here)

i assume you have removed the antivirus you had before you installed avast! ?

yes, you right… because i think having 2 or more AV will make procie’s working slower.

I recomend that you find the removal tool for the AV you had run it and reboot so all leftovers after the uninstall is gone

Hi, if the problem still persists after the Repair, open up avast. Go to settings in the top right. Then click on the Updates tab. Under Proxy Settings you should find an option called “direct connection (no proxy)” Check that box.
