I need help on removing Chitika popups, FB ad popups, and other adyieldmanager/ad.xtendmedia pop ups. I have run Malwarebytes and Avast scan several times and they popups are still there. Any help you can walk me thru will be greatly appreciated as I am not a computer expert and am very frustrated on how to remove these popups. The only thing I was able to do was block some of the popups thru Avast, but the outline of the popups are still appearing with a small red X at the top right corner, showing that some are blocked but still on my computer somehow.
run AdwCleaner…click delete…post log here.
you find it here. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
did that help?
if not continue with OTL found in same guide, when logs are attached (not copy and paste) you will get removal help from a removal expert
Ok thanks! Working on them now. Will post the logs after they are done.
Monitoring
you may post the OTL log anyway, then Essexboy will remove any leftovers…if any.
I have attached the OTL log to this post.

Ok did everything you said and here’s the new OTL log attached to this post.
Could you run the Microsoft fixit on this page please http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Then run a fresh OTL quick scan
Ok I did the Microsoft fixit and another OTL, here’s the log attached.
Could you confirm that it has now disappeared
So far, I haven’t seen the Chitka popups, still searching websites that frequently have the adyieldmanager popups now and will let you know. Will keep you posted.
Thanks so much for what you have helped me with at this point! I will let you know as soon as something pops up again, hopefully not.
Am I doing anything on my end that’s making those popups appear or installed on my computer? Even though I have AVast and MBAM, I didn’t know they can still bypass those.
The host file is one area that neither MBAM nor Avast look at, maybe they could add that
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[]Click OK.
Clear Restore Points
Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7729/mbamicontw5.gif
Malwarebytes.
Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe
Ok thanks so much! I feel as though I owe you a lot due to that frustration level of seeing those popups. I see that you have a paypal donate link. I believe in compensation, b/c no one else was able to help me, especially for free like that and you were on time and very prompt in your responses. That was great!
I am working on cleaning up the computer now.
Also one more quick question: I am using the FREE Avast software, is that sufficient antivirus protection or do you recommend the next level that requires me to pay, etc? Also the same with MBAM, should I upgrade the full version instead of just the FREE version that I am using?
For MBAM to be honest the free should suffice
For Avast the protection is the same for all variants with regards to malware and detection. However, Pro offers a safe zone for banking etc… and AIS has the firewall as well. So the decision for that is yours
Personally I use AIS mainly for safe zone and the tools on the firewall that I use a lot … IP trace etc.
Ok thanks again. BTW: please send me your paypal link, b/c I would like to donate.
